Welcome to the Finca Las Brisas Blog!!

Who we are...
Finca Las Brisas is an ecologically-focused community. It is a place where environmentally conscious people can own property, live and vacation in harmony with nature.

The community members share resources, including over 150 acres of unspoiled forests, year-round rivers with numerous waterfalls, orchards, a vegetable farm, and community center buildings and facilities.

Please visit our website for complete information about the FLB project:

This blog...
....will be full of updates on the FLB project, filling you in on everything that is happening, as it's happening, no matter how small the project.

In the above picture, you can see the Rancho that has been built up on the mountaintop, and a couple of Tico workers unloading some lumber to use for a floor in the upper part of the Rancho. The lumber wasn't bought or shipped in from anywhere; they are planks from a fallen tree on the property that was then milled by the Ticos for use in the Rancho. One of the most important aspects of FLB is that the project is leaving a small carbon footprint on the earth, and we are using as many natural materials from the property as we can. There are many large trees (Pachote for example) that have fallen due to storms or just plain old age. These trees will be used to produce lumber, posts and other wood products that we will need to develop the community center, houses and to improve on the Rancho.

One of the things that we love to do up on the mountain is have dinner around a bonfire in the fire pit, play music and just enjoy being in that very spot. This picture was taken at our last gathering. As you can see, the sunset is breathtaking and the fire is roaring. What you can't hear is Rodolfo, Hector, Vidal, José Antonio and Hector playing their guitarras and singing traditional songs for us. These men are just as much a part of the FLB community as anyone who purchases land with us. Without these hard working friends of ours, the project wouldn't be the reality that it is right now.

Right now (Friday), there are workers leveling a soccer field that is close to the small elementary school on the mountain. With the dirt and earth that is taken away from the field, we will create earth bags to use to build the community center that will start soon. The soccer field is very uneven as of now, and as most of us know, Costa Rican children have a special place for fĂștbol in their hearts, and deserve an adequate playing field to quench their need for the sport! It's a win-win situation: we get to use the earth from the field to our advantage while also creating a 'new' place for the children to play. Pictures of this project will be up shortly...
